Remember the Word 'Interim'
I'm not going to rain on anyone's parade today. i'm just going to tell you how it is.
Iraq passed an Interim constitution today (Text of announcement here). It had one before, too though didn't it? It remains to be seen, whether the document is a signal for a greater future or a sign of greater things to come.
The unassailable, unadultered and unadorned good thing to come out of this process is that the Kurdish finally feel they have a voice? We have screwed them over royally (no pun intended)
But the word interim also comes to my attention. To me the word means - change soon. Interim school superintendent. Interim police chief, etc. UPDATE 5:36 Interim Hatian president
Is it an interim constitution because there is no government, yet. Or is it an interim constitution because when there is a government it's likely to change the constitution?
Articles: Iraq-Today, AP, FoxNews (the most fawning, sorry, but it's true), CNN.com, BBC, MSNBC.
UPDATE I haven't looked beyond the PDF links, but this To-Do list for the Coalition Provisional Authority is brain-numbing. You don't have to respect the asshole liars/politicians to respect the work being done in the ground in this regard.
