Yes, Veronica, We Do Have a Two-Front War
Maybe it's unfair, but I get the feeling that many on the right have tried to say Afghanistan is a settled issue - an unparelled success. Many on the left have said, well, maybe not.
Today is a sad day. With another Afghanistan minister killed and unrest killing 100- (just like Kosovo except this happens less than a year later after we're "done" in Afghanistan) it's not quite the way I way I wanted to be proved right. We have American forces that are stretched thin. Luckily, in Afghanistan we have many other countries who not only are willing to step in but can provide its soldiers, to help out.
We should be thankful for that. Instead we have freedom fries and calls of "Old Europe." We have .. ah, but you've heard it before and will ignore it again.
We had one war - in Afghanistan caused by a very powerful and influential terrorist group within that country. We then started a second war. It remained two separate wars until the Bush "flypaper" strategy worked better than they had ever hoped.
Now it is a two-front war against terror.
As a small aside, all our technology isn't worth the soldiers in the field who are needed in large numbers to do their jobs. The uber-soldier rarely exists. It's a team, not "An Army of One."
Wish Corporate America realized the same thing.
