New Iraqi Flag
The only thing I've got to say particulary about the new flag is - why the rush? Couldn't something like that - that will presumably be around for centuries (or at least months) wait until a legitimate government is in place?
What country wants their flag - a unique symbol representing a country and its independence - created by an occupying country?
Yes, it was done through a competition, filtered through the US-appointed council. Yes, an Iraqi artist did create it (out of only 30 entries ???????? - that says a lot about the lack of a need for a new flag right there). But when it was announced and fed to all the remianing newspapers it was the first time people had seen it and it was presented as a done deal.
And the old flag, surely, represents more than "Saddam's reign of terror. I don't know if Saddam created that flag or not (I will look) but the flag represents the people and their accomplishments much more so than one man.
Why the change and why the rush? And why take oout all the colors that say "Arab nation?"
